TYPOGRAPHY

PLATFORM is excited to announce a solo exhibition from Mariana Muñoz Gomez — the winner of the 2018 PLATFORM Photography Award. The exhibition, Recorrer, to wander, will run from 01-30 March in Gallery 2.

“Recorrí y recorreré. My reach does not go far, not often. But in late-night rememberings or in slowness looking through photographs, I am transported to another time and place. Encountering images, language, and memory allows the mind to wander beyond the physicality of the here and now.”

Through video, prints, and audio, Recorrer, to wander gathers together different modes of reaching, remembering and showing. Using mediums which could or should be impartial such as search engines and photography, the individual pieces in this exhibition engage with intimate retellings of memory and place. In these retellings, imperfections come up by nature of the mediums themselves: Google Maps pins the wrong location, the artists’ voice stumbles over words and pronunciations, and intent and manipulation are evident in hand-pulled screen prints. Repasando estos recorridos is a way to explore what language and memory can do for displaced and diasporic bodies.
