PLATFORM centre, in collaboration with MAWA, is pleased to announce a pop-up exhibition featuring the work of Katarina Eismann (SE). The show runs from 12 – 16 November, 2019 with an opening reception scheduled for Friday 15 November at 7 PM. Eismann will give an artist talk at 7 PM on Wednesday 13 November. Both events are free and open to the public.

Katarina Eismann considers each artwork a sphere of fragments, with unlimited connections and boundaries, in which the body is integral, changing the environment by movement or just pure presence. While in Winnipeg, she will be developing photos, prints and drawings and dealing with their relationship to space and immersive video. She will be using PLATFORM as a studio/lab from October 28 – November 16. Drop in to see her works in progress and finished interactive video installations. Katarina Eismann’s residency is part of an exchange program between MAWA and Kultivera, Sweden, curated by Abir Boukhari, a curator originally of Syria, now living in Sweden.

BIOGRAPHY

In recent years, Katarina Eismann has participated in several major art projects where the documentation, within the artistic process, has become a crucial part in the producing of works. Despite their different approaches, the projects have had in common their perspective on the process as a spatial, non-linear retelling of an event, where a piece of work emerges as a result of the conversations and encounters that take place. This work often involves Eismann entering into other people’s projects in her role as an artist, or inviting others to participate in her own work. The ambition is that the material gathered over the course of the project should function as a catalyst, a forum for discussion and questions, a piece of documentation that offers a representation of intangible and complex processes. Eismann teaches at Stockholm University of the Arts and Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design (Stockholm), and exhibits extensively throughout Sweden and Europe.
